The Family Secret's debut album arises from the longtime collaboration between Kyle Dodge and Brent Lehr, paired with the talents of Lindsey Lee Jones, Chad Acton, and Eric Baldwin. The result is a honeysuckle bed of roses, full of stomping riffs, swaying melodies, and thoughtful songwriting. This is an album you’d expect to find in your grandmother’s dusty milk crate, sitting between Kris Kristopherson and Tom T. Hall. Its classic and begs to shake the floorboards. Chad Acton’s guitar licks on ‘Country Music’ meander their way out of a town that won’t change, and into the highway speed remedy ‘Death Do Us Part’: the existential canticle that’s equal parts road trip philosophy and love song. ‘Family Again’ is a heartbreaker, singing for love of the road, but love of family more. ‘Outlaw’ and ‘Gods Hand’ will put you in the passenger seat – can in hand – wondering what’s next. By the albums end the vocalist is on electric, the guitar player is on bass, and the horn player conducts the crowd in harmony. The Family Secret is a selfless ride through feeling, narrative, experience, and celebration. You’ve arrived.
